A to Z of Vehicle Endurance Testing "Wherever – whenever": Huber Group broadens its testing offers in emerging markets like China and Russia
Whether its individual components, engines or entire vehicles, Huber Group has the know-how and experience to be a fully-fledged testing service provider. From testing of components in proprietary climate chambers to Prototype Fleet-Test Management, Huber Group is capable of organising and executing extensive endurance tests in various locations around the world including the diverse geography of China, the dry deserts of Dubai and the cold plains of Russia. Even though fleet testing is not a standard practice in many emerging markets, Huber Group has increasingly solidified it’s credentials and presence in these regions. According to the maxim “Wherever, whenever” the service portfolio of Huber Group incorporates flexibility and strong customer orientation.
Based on years of international experience, Huber Group offers its customers a full service package which includes summer, winter and altitude testing of vehicles. Upon customer request, Huber Group is fully capable of handling the complete organisation right from detailed planning of the tests to analysis of vehicle data. Huber Group’s standard repertoire also includes testing under extreme weather conditions ranging from below freezing cold to desert heat, testing at high altitudes and special tests (Testing with trailers or cold start tests). And of course, testing of individual prototypes or entire fleets would be done with the same dedication and commitment.
The fact that the engineers and test drivers of Huber Group have a presence across a wide customer base in Europe and Asia makes our motto “Wherever – Whenever” all the more meaningful. Huber Group’s branches in China, Korea, India and Dubai ensure that top quality infrastructure is available for all testing. Customers of the Huber Group also enjoy the cost benefits resulting from predominant usage of local drivers for all test drives. Additionally, Huber Group provides it’s own garage facilities in many countries and also has access to a network of partner workshops and testing facilities.
The flexibility of the Huber team extends to the choice of test systems and measurement instrumentation. Of course, the technology to be used in the test would be defined after close consultation with the customer. Depending on customer requirements, Huber Group could use measurement equipment from IPETRONIK, its own software FLEETEQ or any other technology that the customer prefers. This freedom of choice with respect to measurement technology and highly customisable software effectively ensures that the end solution satisfies all of the customer’s special requirements.
Huber Group’s standard procedure for test vehicle preparation includes integration of On-Board-Diagnostics (OBD) or GPS-Tracking, inspection and verification of the components and performing vehicle modifications for testing of variants. Moreover extensive checks of the vehicle, measurement instrumentation and the system under test are verified including detailed documentation of the same. In order to ensure smooth operation, the customer could access technical support through a workshop service (responsible for repair, maintenance and 24 hour emergency support) and also request an additional support vehicle throughout the testing. Additional services could also be arranged including world-wide transport and customs clearance of the test vehicles, express delivery of spare parts and travel or event organisation in relation with testing. A long term vehicle insurance could also be arranged which could include costs incurred due to premature interruption of the tests due to theft or accidents under the assumption that the value of the test vehicle increases with every kilometre driven.
To ensure that the components under test experience real world conditions, the tests are executed under various driving conditions (on- or off-road, city or highway) and extreme environmental conditions including temperature differences, high altitudes etc. Upon special request, emission tests (including data preparation, evaluation and analysis) could also be performed, the EOBD/OBDII conditions verified, special emission relevant situations executed and analysed (e.g. cold start at very low ambient temperatures) and also fuel quality can be analysed. The latter is notably important for emerging markets with high variations in fuel quality like China and Russia. Huber Group has developed a special fuel sampling system especially for this purpose.
The reporting procedure is also customised according to customer requirements. The documentation and analysis of a test drive consists of real time error messages, online tracking of the test vehicle location through GPS/GSM, daily status updates, skilled and prompt reporting of any relevant incidents during the test, both objective and subjective assessment of the complete vehicle through the entire test cycle. As the final step of an endurance test, complete post-test dismantling of the engine followed by wear analysis is done. A final report including suggestions for improvements to prevent detected problems in future is provided.
Furthermore, Huber Group offers testing capacities in areas of component, engine and dynamometer tests. Climate chambers, vibration testing equipment and test benches including a Dual Channel Mass-Spectrometer are available. Through these it is possible to measure non standard emission components like Ammonia (NH3) and Isocyanic acid (HNCO) in addition to standard measurements for power, torque, fuel consumption, durability and exhaust gas emission (e.g. CO, CO2, HC, NOx). It is also possible to measure particulate matter under the NEDC cycle (roller test bench) and ETC cycles.
